Chicken soup has long been a favorite dish in many cultures all over the world. It appears to have been invented almost as soon as humans figured out that dropping meat into boiling water made a good tasting broth. There is archeological evidence that we were regularly eating soup in the Iron and Bronze Ages. Soup was a popular dish in ancient Greece and Rome. Aristophanes, the Greek satirist, wrote fondly about soup in one of his plays, The Frogs.
The word "soup" comes from "sops"... the term once used to describe any dish with enough liquid in it that you would want to sop it up with bread. Chickens were first domesticated over 4000 years ago in Asia. No matter what part of the world you are from, chicken soup has traditionally been made with an older hen that no longer provides eggs. The older chickens work well for soup because cooking for a long period of time tenderizes the meat and the older chicken has more flavor to impart to the broth.

Find an older chicken if you can. In the grocery store, it can be hard to find anything other than fryers, which are very young. They just do not give the same amount of flavor to your soup as an older chicken. Try local ethnic markets. They may carry stewing hens or they may label them "old chickens." These older birds can really give your soup a flavor boost. If they do not have stewing hens, ask if they sell chicken feet. The feet make an excellent stock full of goodness. You want your chicken soup recipes to taste great. You want them to be memorable. One way to accomplish this is to try recipes from other cuisines. Sometimes they have the right tricks that result in the most delicious soups you ever imagined.
Adding new ingredients can make your chicken soup stand out. A Mexican chicken tortilla soup will be much different from a traditional chicken noodle soup. Think about your presentation, too. Won't it be fun at the table to see steaming bowls of soup topped with crispy tortilla pieces? Taking these considerations into account can help your soup be memorable.
Of course, you may be best remembered for always using only the freshest ingredients. Fresh herbs and vegetables can add so much to the finished soup. On the other hand, maybe you will be the one everyone counts on to feed a crowd. Your specialty may be cooking on a large scale. It can be difficult for many people to make a large kettle of soup that will feed everyone at the family reunion. If this is your strength, go for it! Everyone will remember that huge kettle of delicious soup long after they have forgotten the rest of the meal. Chicken soup makes a lasting impression.
Some foods can increase your heart disease risk and if you have been eating a bad diet for years, perhaps one high in cholesterol or a diet full of junk food or candy, it can be difficult to change your eating habits. However, a heart healthy diet does not have to mean bland, basic food - in fact, far from it!
So, what is the heart healthy diet exactly? The American Heart Association recommends that we eat less than 300 mg a day of cholesterol, that saturated fats make up less than 7% of our total daily calorie intake and that trans fats make up less than 1% of our daily calorie intake. Low fat protein sources, such as skinless poultry, are recommended in the heart healthy diet guidelines and fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are all very good for your heart too.

If you want to know what type of noodles do you use for chicken noodle soup, the answer is whatever type you want! Egg noodles are particularly popular in chicken noodle soup recipes but that does not mean you have to use egg noodles if you want to use another type instead.
In fact, you are not limited to solely noodles either. Rice, potatoes, and pasta also make great chicken soup recipe additions. If you want to use noodles, you might want to use egg noodles, glass noodles, homemade noodles, wheat noodles, vermicelli, udon noodles or any other type which you like and which suit the texture and flavor of the soup.
For example, a fragrant Thai chicken soup recipe would suit delicate glass noodles. A rich beef and chicken broth would suit thick, tasty udon noodles. A basic, farmhouse style chicken soup recipe would suit any kind of noodles, from egg noodles to udon noodles or even pasta. Egg noodles go well with many different chicken soup recipes and you can buy these in different thicknesses or make your own in any shape or size you want.
The key thing to remember is that there is no hard and fast rule about which type of noodles to use in chicken noodle soup recipes. As long as you make the soup well and you add the right amount of noodles, your soup should turn out very well.
They do say that practice makes perfect and this is also the case when you are making chicken soup recipes. Tureens are a nice, traditional soup container and it is good to serve soup from these. Using a ladle, pour the soup into each person's bowl, consommé cup, finger bowl, or dish. It does not matter too much what type of bowl your guests have for their soup but they should match. Everyone should have a matching soup spoon too and access to seasonings in case they want to adjust the seasoning of their soup.
Garnishes on soup look great, are simple to prepare and can be useful to identify the soup. You can use a flower-shaped slice of carrot, for example, to let everybody know the orange colored soup is carrot soup. You can use heavy garnishes on heavier soups, such as toasted, cheese-covered croutons, vegetable strips, small dumplings, or cucumber slices.
On lighter soups, you can use fresh herb sprinkles, fried tortilla strips, pureed vegetables swirled into patterns or fruit segments in ice cubes for chilled soups.
