Rich and Tasty Southern Chicken Stew Recipe

This southern chicken stew recipe is very rich and contains beans, bacon, onion, and cabbage. This is a very hearty stew. You can either cook it in a pan, a Dutch oven or in a crockpot. Southern Chicken Stew with Bacon and Cabbage

Ingredients -

2 onions, sliced
8 potatoes, peeled and cubed
2 (15 ˝ ounce) cans great northern beans
2 (14 ounce) cans chicken broth
8 chicken bouillon cubes
2 heads cabbage, shredded
10 slices bacon
2 large chicken breasts with bone
8 (14 ounce) cans water (from chicken broth can)
Soul seasoning or salt and pepper to season

Preparation:

Fry the bacon and keep the fat.

Chop the bacon into small pieces and drain it on paper towels.

Sauté the cabbage in the bacon fat until golden. Combine the bacon, cabbage, and onions and drain them on paper towels.

Season the chicken and fry it until well browned in the skillet with the bacon fat.

Add the bouillon cubes, broth, potatoes, and water. Simmer until the chicken is tender.

Set aside the chicken to cool then shred it into medium pieces. Add the chicken, cabbage mixture, potatoes, and beans to the pan and cook for a couple of hours or until the chicken is tender and the sauce is thick.
